Agricultural diversification may be the age-old “secret” to not only increase crop yields and improve food security but also protect the planet. Diversified agriculture (planting different crops together instead of just one crop year after year) had “win-win outcomes” for both society and the environment, according to data from 24 studies in 11 countries, spanning 2,655 farms. On farms using diversification strategies, social benefits, including human well-being, crop yields and food security, were noted, along with environmental gains, including improved biodiversity. The study revealed that livestock integration increases the amount of food the farm produces, reduces damage to soil and decreases environmental pollution. The benefits were greatest when multiple diversification strategies were used at once, and applied to all different types of farms.
Consuming more soluble fiber absorbs water and forms a gel that helps slow down food as it passes through your digestive system. It may also decrease the number of calories your body absorbs from food. A study found that with a10-gram increase in soluble fiber intake, belly fat gain decreased by 3.7% over a 5-year period. Excellent sources of soluble fiber include: flax seeds; shirataki noodles; Brussels sprouts; avocados; legumes; blackberries.
Numerous case and clinical studies are revealing that there is a relationship between abnormalities in the spine, the nervous system and the various health challenges that infants experience, especially following birth trauma. In one case report a 14-day-old male infant was suffering from a birth injury to the nerves that supply the shoulder, arm, and hand. The Caesarean delivery was difficult and involved “a lot of tugging.” Although the medical staff acknowledged the injury, nothing was done because imaging did not confirm any issues. The baby experienced a total loss of function in his right arm after delivery. The chiropractor in this study examined the infant and found a structural shift in his neck. This can lead to obstruction of the nerves and it is this obstruction, called vertebral subluxations, that chiropractors correct. After a few chiropractic adjustments, the infant regained full function and improved muscle tone in his arm. Who do you know that could benefit from chiropractic care?
Results of an ongoing study by the ARS (Agricultural Research Service) scientists and their university colleagues found that some natural compounds in Bing cherries may reduce painful arthritic inflammation. Eating cherries may also help lessen the severity of other inflammatory conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, gout, or cancer.
