TIDBIT #1

Choose one thing or habit to focus on for now: If you have found several things or habits you’d like to change, it’s important to focus on just one at a time. Spreading yourself too thin pretty much always leads to failure because life tends to get in the way. If you have a regular life then you probably won’t have the time and energy to change three things at once even though you really hope and think you can.

Every year the independent group called The Environmental Working Group (EWG) releases its Dirty Dozen list, a “Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce,” and it serves as a solid reminder that we still have a lot of work to do when it comes to cleaning up the food system. Here’s the list of the EWG’s Dirty Dozen: Strawberries; Spinach; Kale/Collard Greens/Mustard Greens; Grapes; Peaches; Pears; Nectarines; Apples; Bell and Hot Peppers; Cherries; Blueberries; and Green Beans. Many of these mentioned have been sprayed with pesticides that are banned in most European countries. This list should in no way deter you from eating fruits and vegetables, but it should make you wary of modern chemical farming. If you really want these foods (which are usually so beneficial) make sure you consume them from organic sources. Next week we’ll post the Clean 15!

Studies show that if you eat while distracted you eat 10% more at that meal and 25% more at the next meal! But, if you focus on your food, you will eat 10% less at your next meal. So turn off the distractions, look at your food, smell your food, and think about your food. This will help you to register your food with your brain

This is a case study of an 8-year-old girl who had unbalanced hips and a history of irregular bowel movements. Previous attempts of altered potty training habits and using Colace (laxative) supplements were unsuccessful in regulating her bowel movements. She was examined by a chiropractor and vertebral subluxations were confirmed. This pediatric patient received subluxation-based chiropractic care. Improvements were seen after just two weeks of subluxation-based care. After 6 weeks of chiropractic adjustments, her bowels returned to normal and she had no accidents for the first time in her life! While there is limited research on the effect of chiropractic care on digestive issues such as this, studies, including this one, have shown that chiropractic adjustments may have a positive effect on the management and recovery of similar conditions. It is an important area in need of further research. Who do you know that could benefit from Chiropractic care?

Though dandelion is often considered a weed, those that rely on more natural medicine know it has a lot of benefits. Not only is it full of vitamin A, B, C, and D, and minerals such as iron, potassium, and zinc, but it also has great flavors. The roots of dandelions have been used to treat liver diseases, kidney problems, swelling, issues of the skin, diabetes, eye problems, heartburn, and upset stomachs.
